Parochial Church Council (PCC)

In the Anglican church the PCC is elected at the Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM). We have a duty to consult with the minister on matters of general concern and importance to the parish, and are to co-operate with the minister in promoting the whole mission of the Church in the parish - pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical. We also have to make known and to put into effect provisions made by the diocesan synod or the deanery synod and to give advice to the diocesan or deanery synod on any matter referred to us by those bodies.

We are required to meet at least four times a year, although here at St Lawrence we meet more often.

We are legally responsible for the repair and maintenance of the Church, and of the movable contents of the Church, and must have adequate insurance of the Church and contents against fire etc. Each year we have to consider the annual fabric report, which is presented to the APCM. We must also check the terrier (record) of any land belonging to the Church, the inventory of contents, and the log book recording all repairs and alterations carried out to the Church. We are required to set an annual budget, to take responsibility for raising the required funds, and to present to the APCM the audited or examined accounts.

Here at St Lawrence we are trying to take seriously our duties pastoral, evangelistic, social and ecumenical.  At the first meeting after the APCM members are elected to a number of sub-committees and groups who are charged to help us to fulfil our duties:

Finance Committee; Baptism Group; Bereavement Team; Evangelism Group; Fabric Committee; Little-uns (Carer and Toddler Group); Magazine Committee; Music & Worship Group; Restoration Committee (SLRA); School Governors; Social Committee; Standing Committee; Youth Group.
