Safeguarding Policy Statement 2011
Parish of St Lawrence Darlaston

The Following policy was formally agreed at the Parish Council meeting held on 7th November 2011

  • We are committed to implementing the House of Bishops Child Protection Policy, "Protecting all God's Children (2010)", and the diocesan procedures, which are based on the Childrens Act (1989).

  • Within the Church are all sorts and conditions of human beings, diverse in age, gender, culture and ethnicity, and all must be protected.  To safeguard vulnerable adults we will take the lead from the following policies:- Promoting a Safer Church, and Safeguarding guidelines relating to safer recruitment.

  • As members of the Parish Council of St. Lawrence's Church, Darlaston, we commit our parish to the nurturing, protection and safeguarding of all our members, particularly children, young people, and the vulnerable.

  • We recognise individually and collectively that our work with children, young people and the vulnerable is the responsibility of the whole church community.

  • We will carefully and responsibly select all our volunteers/workers in line with safer recruiting principles, uncluding the use of the Criminal Records Bureau.

  • All PCC members will be furnished with a copy of the Diocesan Child Protection Flow Chart/Algorithm.

  • We are committed to establishing a safe, caring community which provides a loving environment where there is a culture of 'informed vigilance' as to the dangers of any form of abuse.

  • We shall appoint a Child Protection/Safeguarding Co-Ordinator on an annual basis.

  • This policy shall be subject to annual review.  (September 2012)

We have appointed Karen Eccleston as Child Protection/Safeguarding Co-Ordinator on 5th September 2011
